Hey there! I’m Nadine. I was born on the West coast of Canada in ’73, travelled around a bit, and now live with my husband T. (a systems architect), our 4 boys, a few dozen wild wall-lizards and a wayward cat, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alps region of France.
The Auvergne is a hilly farmland area in the middle of the country, home of the Chaine des Puys (a line of dormant volcanoes). It’s very sparsely populated. It’s part of the so-called Diagonale du Vide or “Empty Diagonal.” I’m a bit of a country girl and a hermit crab at heart, to be honest, so I find the name very romantic and the situation quite practical. However, I’ll admit it does get lonely at times.
You’d think that as a mother of four, I wouldn’t get lonely, but I do. I yearn for the kind of (grown-up) “kindred spirits” with whom I can meet up for a quick cup of tea and just jump right back into an old conversation. And that conversation is truthful, and raw, and sometimes ventures into the muddy areas of life, yes; but it’s also usually got a blooming under-theme, something bright pushing up out of the darkness, with a bit of side-splitting laughter thrown in. You know what I mean? Or sometimes we just chill and talk about shoes and handbags.
So here I set up a little “home base” on the web, from where I (and maybe you, sometimes?) can hang out and watch the flowers grow. I do love flowers —and words— and I have the feeling you do, too. Am I right?
I write a lot — I mean a lot! — maybe you do too? If not, and you’d like to write more, maybe I can help a bit with that, by sharing some “tips and tricks” I’ve learned in the last few years. The words only started pouring out of me about three years ago. Before that, I was blocked for about two decades.
I must admit I have a blog-starting addiction. Each time I start a new blog, I hope that this “will be the one.” (Sort of like I used to hope that each new love would be the one, in my pre-commitment days). I think that in the past, my problem was I wasn’t really sure of the goal of any blog/website (/love) I started. Also, I’d get really excited by attempting to control every little bit of it, most of all the aesthetics. Sort of like I did, and still sometimes do, with my life, in fact.
Now that I know that my blogging goal is mostly to connect with other readers and writers, I’m not too worried about the control or the aesthetics, as long as it feels all right, it’s all easy to manage, and facilitates “flow” and conversation. So I think this’ll do.
Maybe if you join in every now and then with some words of your own, you’ll help this one stick? If so, I think I love you already. 😉 And maybe I can get busy working on the “life” part, next. I’ll be sure to share the journey along the way.
Thank you for being here. Hope to read you soon. 🙂
P.S. I’m on a graphic-art profile photo kick. Drop me an email if you want one; I’ll make you one, too, if you’ll send me a photo! And I can write whatever words you choose, on your sunglasses. 🙂 (Limited time offer :))
